Songwriting Tip of the Week. 06/28/04
“When you are feeling depreciated, angry or drained, it is a sign that other people are not open to your creativite energy.”
(Sanaya Roman)

…‘Creatives’ are very moody & emotional people that require more time spent alone then the average person. Ever get irritable, fidgety, or extremely emotional around others and never know why?
Creative energy and emotion derive from solitude and down time spent writing, producing, or playing music – without that time, creativity can lose its inspiration.
Always remember to take time out for the self when creative energy feels drained – it will improve your songwriting and your health. :)

“Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself and know that everything in this life has a purpose”
(Elisabeth Kubler-Ross)

…By keeping silence within yourself, you enable the creative voices to speak. Those creative voices will tell you many things – what the next step of your career is, how to accomplish your goals, what you should do each day to accomplish your goals, what the title of your next song will be, and even each line of lyric for your next song…
Every second, to every minute, to everyday derives from the purpose found in every silent moment of clarity with oneself.

"Always leave enough time in your life to do something that makes you happy, satisfied, even joyous. That has more of an effect on economic well-being than any other single factor.” (Paul Hawken)

…When writing, if a song doesn’t flow from your pen, don’t force it. You cannot capture a good song if you are not having a good vibe.
Remember, never stress if words are not flowing. Stop forcing yourself to write and do something you enjoy and feed your inner artist instead.
Let each moment take care of itself - Enjoy work, enjoy play, enjoy everything and watch your writing soar…

"The function of the creative artist consists of making laws, not in following laws already made" (Ferruccio Busoni)

There are two types of songwriters and artists: The follower and the leader.
The follower will work very hard to write what is the 'hot' trend, say what has already been said, produce what has already been produced, and question none of it...
The leader will intuitively look beyond the norm, will listen for what is not heard, will analyze and question all that exists with a driving passion, and will create 'the hotness' for followers to tailgate for years to come...The leader is hungry but starving for success... Which one are you?

"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening, that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost. (Martha Graham)

...How many times has a hook, a song idea, or a poetic/song'etic mood come to being and thoughts of 'I don't have time' or I'll do it later' flood your mind? Would we truly realize how many 'great' songs we were capable of if we wrote 'every single one' that came to mind? Maybe. Maybe not - but we will never know...

Do not block or deny your unique voice but instead, let it be heard in your mind and on paper whenever and wherever inspiration strikes...
